Outpost Natural Foods Coming in 2014

June 27, 2013 By Brian Mohsenian Leave a Comment

outpostTake note – there is something new coming to Mequon!

A new Outpost Natural Foods supermarket is already under construction, on the northeast corner of Mequon and Wauwatosa Roads in Mequon.

As the fourth Outpost Natural Foods store, and the very first in Ozaukee County, this 16,000-square-foot space will provide yet another option for health-conscious Mequon shoppers.

Commitment to Healthy

What makes Outpost Natural Foods different from the other supermarkets Mequonites currently frequent? It’s their whole-hearted commitment to “food grown the way it used to be”. That means a commitment to:

  • Organic — Outpost supports organic farming practices and food grown without the use of synthetic chemical pesticides, herbicides and fungicides.
  • Local — Outpost purchases locally grown and produced food items whenever possible. Buying local keeps more dollars in the community.
  • Fair Trade — Whenever possible, Outpost offers Fair Trade certified products because Fair Trade products ultimately help some of the poorest people in the world develop a livelihood that will sustain themselves.
  • GMO-Free — Foods grown containing genetically modified organisms (GMO) compromise the health and safety of the food supply in general. As part of their commitment to organic, Outpost Natural will offer GMO-Free products.

Financing

To get the Outpost Natural Foods store kickstarted, the Mequon Common Council approved a proposal to provide $229,241 in assistance for the $4.1 million development. The money will be provided through the city’s tax incremental financing district along Mequon Road between Wauwatosa Road and the Milwaukee River. A part of Outpost’s annual property tax will be rebated to the company over a four year period.

Learn More

If you’re eager to learn more about Outpost Natural Foods, you can visit one of their other three stores in the greater Milwaukee area. They are at 100 E. Capitol Drive, Milwaukee; 7000 W. State St., Wauwatosa; and 2826 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood.

In the meantime, if you want to follow the construction progress at the Mequon location, Outpost is providing updates on their website.

Can’t wait for the Mequon Natural Outpost to be here? It will be here before you know it; it’s scheduled to open by summer 2014.

Shopping for Snow and Tennis Gear in Mequon: Les Moise

June 2, 2013 By Elizabeth Braatz Leave a Comment

Advertisement for Les Moise skiwear from Milwaukee Journal in early 1960sWhether you are into skiing, tennis, snowboarding or in-line skating, Les Moise is the specialty store for you. The family-owned and operated business has a rabidly loyal following — no surprise given it’s longevity, strong community ties and commitment to “provide the best brands in the sports we specialize in.”

Milwaukee Area History

Since 1946, when Laicaster Moise first opened his doors, his namesake stores have been outfitting generations of Milwaukeeans. His original store in downtown Milwaukee specialized in men’s and women’s hunting, fishing, golf, clothing and equipment.

Over the years, Les Moise has grown and evolved, but has always remained a family business. Years, ago, Clement Rosmann took over from Les. Clement’s wife, Joyce, and all four of their children continue to run the business today.

The original store in downtown Milwaukee moved to Whitefish Bay in 1955 and then to Mequon in 2012. The new Mequon store on Port Washington Road has over 9,000 square feet of retail space and provides the same selection of equipment and clothing as the previous location. Les Moise also has a store in Brookfield which serves the western suburbs.

Hit the Slopes

Whether cross country, alpine or snowboarding is your passion, Les Moise has you covered. From boots to bindings, to skis and snowboards, the store carries the very best brands: Volkl, K2, Rossignol, Atomic, Salomon, Fischer and more. Les Moise also carries a deluxe array of high-end stylish apparel: Obermeyer, Karbon, Spyder, Descent and others. One stop and you can get everything you need, including ski and board tune-ups and binding checks. So whether you’re headed to Colorado, Iron Mountain or to ski the cross country trails at Rotary Park, Les Moise is a great first stop.

Hit the Courts

Les Moise is also the go-to spot for all your tennis needs. In addition to rackets, shoes and apparel from top tennis brands such as Dunlop, Head, Prince and Yonex, Les Moise offers racket restringing. Folks rave about the service:

“I recently took my beloved Prince racket here (circa 1996) to get restrung and also look at tennis shoes.  The service here is exceptional and the people that work here actually use the products they are selling so they can give you honest feedback. The girl that helped me with my shoes was great and very patient since I was trying on many pairs.”
~ Melanie B on Yelp

So, if you’re looking for more than what those big box sports stores offer, stop by Les Moise for some truly exceptional service from a caring family-owned business. You’ll see why Milwaukee locals make this their go-to snow and tennis sports store.
